Difficulties finding suitable oil and gas candidates in a down turn

Posted on 07 December 2009 by admin

With the present decline in the gas and oil industry along with the recent trend for pay offs and pay cuts, a vast majority of individuals are looking for better prospects. The down turn has resulted in fewer jobs but more people looking for work. It’s a difficult situation for recruiters, now more than ever they are being inundated with CV’s from potential candidates. Recruiters work loads are increasing at a time when they themselves are trying to cut costs. It is difficult for recruiters to cut costs as there is lots of administration work associated with registering new candidates and from reading through masses of CV’s received for the few vacancies that they have.

The oil and gas market is already showing signs of recovery fueled by the rising oil price and the announcement of new discoveries and prospects, in countries where the doors have traditionally been closed to foreign oil companies. Recruiters don’t want to be turning candidates away when they could have hundreds of vacancies to fill in a few months time.

So how do recruiters cut costs? Traditionally most recruitment companies rely on job boards to find candidates. The current model these sites follow sees a job being posted and candidates asked to send their CV in response. With so many people desperately looking for work these sites make it easy for anyone to send there CV. More often than not most of the CV’s received are irrelevant with the individual not even meeting the basic requirements for the position! It creates lots of unnecessary work for recruiters as each application has to be reviewed manually and logged in their system. The irony is that these recruitment sites charge vast amounts of money for job posts and access to their candidate database. They do very little to assist with the reduction in a recruiters workload and can add to fruitless time wasting and frustration on the recruiters part.

Recruiters now more than ever are turning to their own databases to find candidates. This however presents another problem, keeping an in house database up to date is near impossible! How do recruiters know which candidates are actually looking for work?? Lots of time is spent cold calling potential candidates and sending emails. It’s a lengthy process that not only takes time but costs a great deal of money, employees time has to be budgeted for, plus international calls soon amount to huge phone bills. End case scenario is that you will end up paying to place the position on a job site anyway, as a  result of your own candidate database failing to produce the match required for the vacancy.  This in effect doubles the cost and could see you loosing the position as most companies now use more than one recruitment company. Speed in finding candidates is essential.

So what’s the solution? How about a site where recruiters can post oil and gas jobs for free? A site where suitable candidates can be automatically matched to positions and recruiters can view their matches for free? A site that offers a better solution and solves all of the above problems while offering a better service to candidates…

InAutomotive.com bucks a poor economic outlook, recording a record number of visitors

Posted on 16 November 2009 by admin

InAutomotive.com – one of the country’s leading websites for people seeking work in the automotive industry – is bucking the poor economic outlook after recording a record number of visitors.

Over the past month the online job board, which is part of the Simply Jobs group,  has seen a dramatic 20 per cent rise in activity – giving it a dominant 63 per cent share of the online automotive recruitment market.

The figures are particularly impressive when revealed against the website’s closest rival, Motoringjobs.com, which has just a 30 per cent market share  -19 per cent less than InAutomotive.com.

Ian Partington, managing director of InAutomotive.com, said the figures reflected the growing uncertainty in the car industry, coupled with the growing reputation of InAutomotive.com in the sector.

”Thousands of people have been made redundant from the car industry as a consequence of the global recession and these figures suggest that more and more of them are turning to InAutomotive.com to help find them work in these difficult times,” he said.

”We have a trusted reputation among clients for offering quality candidates for positions and, with more than 2,500 jobs advertised on the site at any one time, anyone who is unemployed or simply looking for a change of career has access to thousands of new positions at the touch of a button.

”With almost two thirds of the online market share, InAutomotive.com is fast becoming the first port of call for anyone seeking work or advertising vacancies in the sector.”

With the car industry still reeling from the global economic downturn, the Government announced this month that it is creating an Automotive Council of ministers and industry representatives to help the sector attract investment and adapt to longer-term challenges.

The council, which will meet before the end of the year, will be co-chaired by Business Secretary Peter Mandelson and Richard Parry-Jones, the former chief technical officer at Ford Motor Company.

It will aim to achieve greater coordination between the Government and the private sector in areas such as research and development, attracting inward investment and modernizing research and manufacturing facilities.

The Council will also be tasked with strengthening the auto-parts supply chain.

Over the past few months Mandelson’s business department has been working closely with the sector, not least in efforts to limit job losses at General Motors’ UK unit, Vauxhall, where 10,000 jobs are under threat.

The Government also unveiled a popular car scrappage scheme which has sparked a revival in auto sales in recent months.

Traveljobsearch.com records record number of visitors

Posted on 16 November 2009 by admin

Traveljobsearch.com – one of the leading websites for people seeking work in the travel industry – has recorded record numbers of visitors making it the biggest Travel and leisure specific job board in Britain.

The site, which is run by the Simply Jobs group, saw a four per cent rise in visitors last month, giving it a 63 per cent market share of online travel recruitment.

The figures mean Traveljobsearch.com has an impressive 38 per cent over its nearest rival, Travelweekly.co.uk, and 53 per cent more than competitor Travelindustryjobs.co.uk.

Ian Partington, managing director of Traveljobsearch.com said the website’s dominant position in the market was down to the trusted reputation it enjoyed among job seekers and clients.

”With more than 1,000 positions and 78,000 job seekers registered at any one time, Traveljobsearch.com is a great tool for anyone looking for work, or any boss looking to fill a role in their firm,” he said.

”We have a trusted reputation among clients for offering quality candidates for positions and our website is also easy to navigate for those looking for work and gives them instant access to scores of jobs.

”The travel industry has been particularly badly hit by the global recession with hundreds of redundancies made throughout the sector.

”This, coupled with our success at placing those seeking employment in new jobs, has boosted our standing in the industry and is undoubtedly fuelling a rise in visitors to the site each month.”

Improving signs within the hospitality industry indicate improving economic situation

Posted on 04 November 2009 by admin

Ross Eades, CEO of multi-sector recruiter the Kellan Group has today announced further growth to the business.

In a new and positive sign of strength in the hospitality industry, the foremost recruitment brand in the sector, Berkeley Scott, has today announced that Simon Tucker-Brown is to join the company to head up the re-established isis brand.

isis is an executive and board-level search practice that deals solely with senior appointments within the hospitality and leisure industries.

Tucker-Brown’s appointment and the development of the isis division will enable the company to respond to changes in the economy and further extend its client portfolio from its core business of predominantly operational staff, chefs and General management, into new executive level markets.

Berkeley Scott have also witnessed over the past quarter a 350% increase in the number of clients approaching them about senior management, as businesses come to recognise that the strategic leadership that they previously had needs to be reinstated or in some circumstances changed.

Economic commentators recognise that companies looking at their executive structures is a sign of positivity within the employment market as a whole and moreover in the hospitality industry.  “Re-establishing isis is about Berkeley Scott giving a strong commitment to, and demonstrating our confidence in, the growth of the market, the wider industry and our own business” explains Mark Darby, managing director of Berkeley Scott.

The recruitment of Tucker-Brown is a coup.  A highly accomplished search and selection specialist with an impressive record of delivery, he initially spent 12 years in a number of senior positions in the hotel industry.  Since 1998 Tucker-Brown has been in executive search, focusing on the hospitality & leisure sector both domestically and internationally. Simon has managed assignments across a broad range of disciplines at senior executive and board level.

Tucker-Brown is well known and respected by senior executives and board members in the hotel, hospitality and leisure sectors and is regarded by many as the countries foremost hospitality search and selection specialist.

“Our executive candidates and business partners need the discretion that a boutique can provide, which is why we have established isis as a separate operation within the Berkeley Scott business” explains Darby.  “With his strategic insights and experience in dealing with the big players, Simon is well-suited to lead the isis division.”

Tucker-Brown commented “I look forward to leading isis. Berkeley Scott has a pedigree to be proud of and the direction it is heading in, the pride it has in the quality of service it offers and the responsibility it feels towards the hospitality industry is unique and something I strongly agree with.  It was a natural and easy decision to join them and the opportunity open to me is extremely exciting, giving me a platform to develop a business which is truly unique.”

Eades confirms that the appointment is significant “the strength of Kellan Group search and selection businesses has allowed us to focus growth in this area.  The strategy I am pursuing with the board is based on acquisition and organic growth and the formation of isis to compliment our strong Berkeley Scott brand is the first of many exciting developments for Kellan Group”
