Is this the new approach to recruitment businesses have been waiting for?

One of the few good things to come out of the recession is that companies have been forced to look closely at their overheads and the quality of their employees. This ‘new approach’ will not only reduce recruitment costs but it will also help to filter out the best candidates.

Is this the beginning of a new era in how we recruit people?

Yes, more companies are looking to the internet for their recruitment needs. With unemployment almost reaching 2.5 million, it’s getting hard to filter out the best candidates for vacancies, and that’s something we’re looking to help with.

What business sectors are you looking to deal with in the first year?

We’re looking to work with as many business sectors as possible, if your industry requires staff, we want you on board!

On a personal note, what has influenced your career to date?

Nothing in particular stands out for me, it’s just the path that I have walked down. I started in modular buildings which just wasn’t for me, then when searching for a new job I became increasingly frustrated with the recruitment process. I’ve always wanted to start my own business, recruitment just happened to be the industry I came across which I believed could be improved.

How much did your family background influence your approach to business life?

My family background has definitely had a prominent influence on where I stand today, I come from 3 generations of entrepreneurs and have always wanted to follow in their footsteps. Business has surrounded me all my life and I have always found it captivating. Whether it be in the office or at the dinner table, business seems to be the focal point of conversation, and I wouldn’t want it any other way!

Where do you see the www.cvsearch.co.uk? in five years time?

I’d like to see us competing with the likes of monster, totaljobs, reed, jobsite etc. In all honesty I’d like to be market leader, and based on the product we’ve got, there is no reason why we shouldn’t.

How do you spend your spare time?

Most of my spare time is spent playing sport and generally keeping active. I enjoy mountain biking, squash, football, rugby, snowboarding, the list is endless. Generally if it requires an element of competition I’ll enjoy it! Other than that cars are my obsession, I enjoy restoring classic cars and taking them to car shows all over the UK.

Soapbox – is there anything that really gets on your nerves?

I seem to have an obsession at picking at business websites, business cards, stationary or anything else that represents a business and its image. It’s such a vital part of attracting trade yet many still fail. The internet has been around for long enough now for people to realise it’s of key importance to attracting new trade. So make sure your website looks professional and not built by a 14 year old on a Saturday afternoon, and whatever you do…don’t operate your emails from a free mail service account. It’s cheap enough to buy domain names so don’t have joebloggs@hotmail.com written on your business cards!

Finally, what advice would you give people about to make their way in business?

I’d have to quote Nolan Bushnell who founded Atari: “The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” – He’s right, taking that first step into business is the hardest, it’s easy to talk about what you plan on doing or dream of doing – instead just do it now.
